I have a long-term plan to build a large tank (~1000 gallons) for a big predator, and I'd like to have it initially stocked with feeders and some things that will be able to survive with a large predator and keep things interesting.

In the long run I'd like the tank to have a bass, 1-3 common plecos (not super picky on the species, and I expect these to be rescues that are fairly large fish to begin with), and a colony of crayfish.

Things I would like to know:

- Are plecos compatible with crayfish?

- Will guppies be happy enough in 4 feet of water, or do they need shallows to rest? Are they compatible with fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas, rosy reds), or will one eat the other's offspring? The idea is just to have a top-dwelling livebearer along with an egg-layer that can use the deeper water, so I'm open to suggestions for either one.

- Is it even possible to breed an egglaying species in a tank with crayfish, or will I just end up with a lot of crawdads?
