What happened

So I had some drift wood that had black hair algae so I took out the wood let it dry a bit then turned my water on super hot and scrubbed...well when I put it back in the black algae that was left on is bright red what happened

Idk but it sounds like you probably killed it with the hot water possibly even murdered it, if it turned red lol!
No jk, it does sound very strange though. I've never had that happen. Not sure, sorry wish I could be of more help.
