hi,

i just got 2 cherry shrimp and a “rainbow shrimp”. one of the cherry shrimp was speckled red when i got it but now it is clear. is it due to stress?

What are the water parameters?

Yes, it is definitely probable.

How long has the tank been set up?

Shrimp are best kept in a cycled, stable and mature aquarium.

If you are new to aquarium keeping, check out the article link in my signature. It explains the nitrification cycle and how to keep a good home for your fish or shrimp.

You can remove uneaten food with a turkey baster. Feed lightly.

What are you feeding them?

You might want to do a water change if you are worrying about possibly not having good water parameters.

My tank is pretty small (5 gallons). I get really cautious about the nitrogen cycle so I cycled it for 6 weeks. I tested it and zero ammonia and nitrogen, 6.9 ph, 76-78 degree temp range, lots of algae to eat. To be fair, I have white gravel, which could be the issue. So far I haven’t fed them as I got them yesterday and there is lots of algae to eat. What should I feed them?

Thank you!!
