I returned my common pleco today and got this snail as a replacement. I know nothing about snails. Can anyone tell me what kind it is and any information? Thanks in advance :). Sorry about the photo bomb from my GBR. Lol

P.S. My ADFs are already more relaxed since the pleco is gone. He had tried to suck on them a few times. Poor little guys :( they are out and about now!

Not a Japanese trapdoor for sure. They have shells that have circular swirls that come to a point at the top. I have them in my tanks and pond.

Here is a pic of his back side

Thanks for the pic! Andrew was correct, it is a trapdoor (sorry Andrew, my fault!). They are interesting creatures and give birth to live babies. Not very active snails and they will go for days without moving. They grow huge and are primarily algae eaters and tolerate cold environments very well.

Just wanted to say your gbr has beautiful colors

Thank you! I discovered they have ich today :( I'm really hoping they are okay. They are my favorite fish. So fun to watch and they have great personalities

It's a mystery snail for sure, he looks like he has some algae on his shell and would probably appreciate it if you scrubbed it off!:) hope your gbrs get better!

Could you get a picture of his head/mouth area? It kind of looks like a trapdoor in one of the photos and a mystery snail in another lol

Here is a 'mystery' (apple) snail next to a trapdoor snail. The trapdoor snail is not as rounded as the mystery, covered in algae and has the white calcification on the very point of the shell.

Looks like a mystery snail to me. I have one that looks just like him.

(Sorry for the indecency in the first one... Haha)

My frogs and pleco are camera hogs.
