Ok, first post here. I am looking into a 250-350 gallon FOWLR tank and have a couple questions regarding thickness of the build. I am getting some custom quotes.

I have used a couple different calculators online and here is where the confusion is: Acrylic is supposed to be much stronger than glass, however when I calculate what the thickness of the tank should be, I am getting 3/4 glass and 1.25 Acrylic? why?

Tank dimensions are approx 82x24x36. I have used several calculators and they are all coming back the same. Why is it telling me that the glass should only be .75 but the acrylic needs to be 1.25.

Thanks in advance!! David

Glass is actually a bit stronger than acrylic, but more fragile.

Acrylic needs a huge thickness primarily because it will bow under the weight of the water getting a pot belly look.
