Hey everyone, I am working on a 40g breeder aquarium that I am going to turn into a DIY sump/refugium and I bought some acrylic the other day that is .080" thick and I was just wondering if that is going to be thick enough? I feel that it is but I would just like to be sure. Thanks!
no it wouldn't really be thick enough, thats like using a piece of poster board as a baffle. i would buy the .220 from homedepot, it won't flex as much
I agree. eight tenths of an inch thick is way too thin. If you have a plastics/acryclic store around you, opt for the 1/4" stuff. It's cheap, super sturdy and won't bend/crack like plexiglass from HD can over time.
another affordable option is to be creative. i used ordinary plastic cutting boards on more than one occasion to partition sumps.
cheap and strong. here's a 40 breeder-
and here it is full of water, with a 125 gallon tank i partitioned next to it...
