Would the method in this link work if I used live sand instead of fish or live rock?

There is not enough beneficial bacteria in a bag of 'live' sand to cycle a tank. An ammonia source needs to be provided to cycle the tank, be it pure ammonia or a cocktail shrimp.

I cycled my tank in about 2.5 weeks using dr Tim’s one and only bacteria and dosing ammonia. I also had all dry rock and dry sand. You could potentially skip or drastically speed up a cycle by using all live rock. I’m talking the stuff covered in tons of life. Or you
