Does the addition of a sump (extra water capacity overall) increase the amount of livestock your tank is capable of carrying?

Not looking to push the limits, just curious.

yes and no. You can add more fish that need a smaller tank but not a large fish that needs a larger tank. That make since? Say you have a 55gal and a 30 gallon fuge. A fish that requires a 70 gal tank is no better off but you could add additional fish that require a minimum of 30 gal. But then again. Why push it?

Ya, I get the whole fish size thing, was just wondering since I was of the understanding the surface area adds to the oxygenation of the water, so the more surface area (wherever the water is agitated somehow) the larger the supported bioload.

Not looking to make a busy tank, just read a post about someones sump and figured the questionw as worth asking..
