Does anyone know if Tufa Rock is reef safe? I am thinking about adding some to my sump.

Wouldn't try it. It's rock formed form evaporation of calcium rich waters. Got stuff like calcium carbonite in it. But more scary than those things (which I really dont' know what they are), is the fact that the wonderful color of the rock is due to the iron oxide or rust in it.

Great for outdoor gardens though. 8)

Wouldn’t the 30 lbs box of lr rubble from hirocks.com be enough? It won’t mess up your tank and I can’t imagine the Tufa rock being any cheaper. I wouldn’t trust it either. Lava rock also shouldn’t be used IMO.

Keep in mind that they are slow to ship though. My order took about 10 days to deliver but it is quality porous base rock IMO.
