Do you have a filter? How big is the tank? Most tanks do well with 50% water change weekly. Bettas seem to live on average 2-3 years though a hearty and well cared for Betta can live 3-5 from what I understand.

With our Betta we did a water change ever week to week and a half. He lasted for about a year.

Hi!
What size tank?
Bettas do much better in heated and lightly filter tanks. Without a filter (depending on the tank size) you are looking at 100% water changes every 1-3 days to keep him healthy. Any longer then this and ammonia will build causing him to become ill.
