I used a seeded sponge that my local aquatic store let me buy to help my tank cycle. Now that my tank is cycled what should I do with the sponge that I have inserted into my hang on back filters. Should I just keep them jammed into the filters (Emperor 400, Penguin 350) or do I need to get rid of them?

Keep them IMO, that's where your BB is most established. You could remove one, and another 2-3 weeks later safely. Removing them all at once may cause a mini cycle until the bacteria colony on the filter pads grows large enough to handle it alone.
