Filters shut off! now angelfish is dead!

I went out last night feed the fish before i left came home and woke up the next mourning to find both my filter and skilter shut down! i saw my angelfish dead and my starfish was looking like it was about to be finished, so i fixed the filter stuff and the starfish is ok now, but it sucks how it shut down, ill figure out what went wrong later.
