I just got an older jack Dempsey from a coworker. They said the tank was perfect Nd it only had a pleco as a tank mate. It looks very unhealthy and I have it in quarantine in case it has something. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?

Poor thing he looks a bit rough. I would think its important to keep the water very clean. I've got no experience with dempseys but I'm sure someone will chime in soon

Looks like he got into a scrap I haven heard of plecos being fin biters lol. Are the fins decaying or like falling off if not and he was damaged some how if he's eating and the water is clean the fins should grow back, I would use some aquarium salt to help the jd out.

I have the temp at 80 and am slowly bringing it to 86 to 88. As usual on most of my tanks I over filter everything. It almost looks as though he was beat up bc he has a scratch on his side too. Would aquarium or kosher salt be better?

It appears to be something that is eating away his flesh. It's kind of sad.
