What is the grey thing? I just got my LR today... a snail of some sort? Don't know if it will be alive or not...

If it's not mobile, I'd say it's valonia. AKA bubble algae. If it is mobile, see if you can remove it for closer photos. ;)

It's kind of hard and about 3/4" long. Algae doesn't get like that does it? I was afraid to move it because I just got the rock today. Should I try or leave it alone? It hasn't moved. It's only been in the tank for about 3-4 hours.

Bubble algae is hard, you just don't want to pop it. It is full of spores that will spread the algae if it gets busted. It can be removed by gently twisting it from the rock. It's best to do this outside the tank with a bucket of salt water. That way if it does bust, you can rinse the rock before adding it back to the tank.
