White Blob on sand

I've got this white blob that looks like some crushed up lint from your dryer. It's white and is the size of a quarter and is sitting on top of my sand. Any ideas?

Hmmm, do you have any sand sifters in your tank that's gone missing? Sounds like something maybe died. I could be totally off base though so, as Lando said, a pic would really help.
