I got a free 55 gallon tank and the bottom rim was cracked so I resealed the top rim but does anybody know if it would be ok without the bottom rim??

Mmm it would probably always be at the back in my mind. One day you might put pressure on it doing a water change or something only to find 55gallons of water go everywhere.

Got a picture?

All rims are necessary for support on tank sizes greater than 10g. If you can't find a new rim, you can always DIY one using aluminum from a hardware store.

That would make a great reptile tank, but I definitely wouldn't try to fill it with water.
