After discovering that my water softer isn't the best for aquariums I now want to figure out how to make it not softened water for just the sink i use for water changes. Is this as simple as just flipping a switch or as a last option do I need a plumber? Is this a do able diy project?

If you have a whole house water softener it's probably a job for a plumber. It might be as cheap to get a RODI system and make your own water however you want.

One other possibility is an outside faucet. Often when initially plumbed they don't include outside faucets?

Sorry i couldn't figure out how to delete this but I already asked the same question on a different thread.
