I'd go a carpet aswell for the mid ground. Maybe Monte Carlo or HC Cuba? Pretty sure both of those are fine in low light. :)
 
I didn't think a low light carpet was possible, but I'll look into the Monte Carlo and HC Cuba and think about adding a carpet. Thanks for the suggestion.
 
Looks great! I love that huge sword. Unfortunately, I highly doubt a carpet plant would do well in that low of light, especially shaded by the sword. Dwarf Vals are a lower light requiring plant that sort of creates a grassy carpet effect. Only problem is that in lower light they tend to grow taller, and in stronger light stay shorter. I had a bunch in an extremely high light 10g and they stayed about 3" tall, then when I swapped the light for a lower wattage and removed the CO2, they grew to the surface.
