I was just wondering if they needed to be planted or stuck onto driftwood? Also growing conditions

I'd plant them in the substrate. They can be heavy root feeders and do best if they are not moved around a lot. In general they are adaptable to a wide variety of water conditions and are usually considered low-light plants but they also can flourish under moderately higher light levels as well.
