I have a 10 gallon tank with two 50/50 mini compact bulbs. Would these work for a planted tank?

Technically yes but not the best. Half is actinic it doesn't help plants at all. 4000k-10,000k is best walmart sells 6500 for $8 some big box stores as well.

Ok, I just hate the yellow look of the lower kelvin rating

I'm using 6,700k cfls in my planted tank. I prefer the look of 8,000-10,000k myself, but I don't think the 6,700's look as yellow as traditional soft white ones. Most of the better looking bulbs are called "daylight" bulbs and most of the boxes will tell you the color temperature somewhere on the box.

Should I just try it? Or would it not work at all? I plan on using fertilizer. No co2.

Also do I still need to cycle my tank before I add fish if it will be decently planted?
