So I bought the 150 because years ago I was very happy with my Emperor 400, plus the 150 has 2 slots for filter sleeves. It seemed cool to me, until I read in AA that a lot of the more experienced tank people don't use carbon at all in their filtration, just ammo rocks and sponge. So I'm wondering if anyone has a different way they use their Penguin 150's.

I was thinking about cutting open the cartidges and replacing the used carbon with ammorock afterward. Or maybe even removing the mechanical media from 2 cartidges and using clips to hold just the plastic parts together and adding whatever I wanted, like ammo in one and floss in the other.

Or, with the biowheel, do I really need more ammonia protection?

Any ideas?
