separating anubias nana

My anubias nana has a "baby" and as I am setting up a new tank I would like to separate it but I have no idea how to go about that. Here are some pictures of the off chute

A nice sharp knife or razor blade works well. I've separated one anubias 12 times in the past year, all with 4-5 leafs

Do I cut it right at the main stem

just cut the rhizome with a sharp blade

Yes, you can. I never gave mine the opportunity to shoot off like that. I always just cut the rhizome in half when it gets about 10 leaves on it.

What about java fern? I have one of those that has 3 different rhizomes, do I just cut them apart?

You can, just as long as there are a few leaves left. I usualy leave the big plant and just pluck the babies off though.
