I have 4 different kinds of Java fern in my 29 gallon hexagon tank. Why kind of light do I need to promote healthy growth ?

Try and find a light made for plants, doesn't matter which type. LED, T5-NO, T5-HO, T8, T12, Halogen, Compact Fluorescent, Power Compact.

Look for a light with Kelvin spectrum in the 3500K - 10,000K range. The lower the K rating, the more yellow the light is, the higher the K rating, the more pure white the light it.

Fluval Plant 3.0 is a very nice light, you van likely get away with FLuval Aquaksy for Java Ferns alone.

Sunblaster or Odyssea T5-HO's (1 or 2 bulbs).

A couple 26 watt cool with CFL bulbs in lamp housings are all goo options.
