does my light fixture need stands?

I finally got a new coralife light fixture and lights today. It has little pegs that keep it like a quarter inch off the cover but does it need to be higher off it or will it be ok?

Depends on what type of fixture. If it's a compact fluorescent sitting on glass (1/4" is "sitting on" in my book) the glass will eventually shatter. If it's just a regular fluorescent, you're probably OK. If it's metal halide, well... it'd probably be broken by now so I doubt that's the case!

Oh... less wattage that I assumed. It might be OK, but I'd prop it up with something just to be safe. Maybe someone else with that fixture has some more personal experience...
