Heaters???

What's the best brand?

I need to get a heater for my soon to be 40g reef tank. I was looking for a 200 Watt heater...a little over kill

Any suggestions?

Everyone will have an opinion on this. I think the Eheim Jager heaters are great and keep the temp really steady. IMO

Jager heaters are excellent and have a thermal safety if you drain the tank and expose them. They also have pinpoint accuracy right out of the box.

They are also very nicely priced. We're talking in the low to mid $20s.

My main suggestion with heaters, especially for anything over 20 gallons is to buy two heaters of whatever brand you prefer.

Instead of one 200 watt, buy two 100 watt heaters and set them on either side of the tank, six inches in from the sides.

You'll not only have a safety if one dies on you, but you'll have a much more consistent temp across the tank and you'll notice your heaters work less to maintain your temp.
