JBJ Nano cube 24dx fish suicides

I have a planted fresh water 24g. All of my fish are healthy, the tank is cycled, water levels have been normal. Over the past 6 weeks I have lost 1 neon tetra, 2 rasbora espei, 2 blood fin tetra to my filter intake.
Twice I have watched the healthy fish swim right into the intake, I released the fish only to watch it swim right back in.
Any tips?

How about using a sponge filter part to cover up the intake? I think that would work.
