I've got a 54g with just one small clown and some inverts in it. My Remora (mj1200) seems to be working, with dark brown sludge building up in the tower and on the lid of the collection cup. I get maybe 1/4" of wet skimmate a week, plus whatever dried gunk sticks to the top/sides

I've got a nasty cyano problem and am wondering if I'm skimming enough. The remora is supposed to be good for this size tank, but I'm wondering if I need to do more to clean it or something? I clean out the cup/tower/etc weekly, but so far have not removed the whole thing from the tank and scrubbed it out.

Thoughts?

i'd personally look to a few other things...

the old standards...

feedings - how much and how often
water - ro/di or tap or store....
current - what type of water flow in the tank
then lightening - how many hours...

in your case you have 60lbs, I have probably missed it, but I sometimes wonder if there is a link somewhere there...

about 8 tiny pellets (one shake) per day from the bio-blend stuff
rodi, tds of 2 I think (probably needs a flush)
3 maxi 900's plus an MJ400 on my phos reactor, so around 14x flow
180 watts of PC 50/50 I think (inherited this one), about 8 hours

this week, I turned off my 30watts of NO lights which I think have non-sw bulbs. not sure if this helped or not.
