inherited poor breeding habit

I just took over a 20 gallon tank from a friend who had guppies in the tank. He initially told me that there were approximately 30 guppies in the tank. Now that i have it, I believe there are a lot more than that and there are quite a few severely deformed guppies. I learned the tank population is a result of 8 years of letting them breed without control. What can I do to bring back a healthy balance to the tank?

I would cull any deformed fish for a start. I would either rehome all the males or females and if you really want them to breed, introduce some new lineage into the mix.

Well if there's that many I would get rid of some by giving some away and they're pretty hardy fish I would just chnage the water more often......the guppys will probably continue breeding if you do something about it
