No, in my understanding carnivorous plants such as the sundew only need fed if they are not receiving enough nutrients from the soil. since my soil supports lots of other plants, I know it has plenty of nutrients, therefore I don't feed it.

On another note, I'm starting to see some increased algae growth - kind of a blackish looking coating showing up on the rocks. Does someone know if recommended treatment is CO2 or ferts?

I am by no means any kind of expert on this kind of setup but I was wondering would it not be not be even more intersting if you could set it up so that you could get a deeper area of water in and therefore more fish/newts/insects etc?

In any case it is still a very interesting set up

Me either LOL. The problem with the turtle tank, is that it is only 12 1/2" high. Therefore, if you want to grow things in the bog of any size (i.e. anything other than ground cover), you can't have much depth/size in the pool.

However, like yourself, I'm thinking bigger is better. So, I'm in the process of planning a similar design in a 30L. This should give me both a bigger and deeper pool. Doesn't mean I'm throwing the existing one out, just means I want to do some taller plants and bigger inverts/fish/amphibians. Was actually planning it to have a place to rehome the snapper when it got too big for the existing tank, but so it goes. Have to figure out filtration, since the 30L doesn't have a cut out like the Turtle tank does. Also hoping to waterproof the wall better, so that I can acutally keep carnivorous plants, which was the initial goal with this one.

After seeing your tank I'm researching doing something like this to replicate the mangroves down in the FL keys... if anyone has any ideas I'd be glad to hear them!

Mangrove tank would be cool - I would think, given the size mangroves grow to that you would need a considerably larger tank for starters. Also, if I remember correctly from my research on mangroves, you have to supplement some trace elements as they absorb them very quickly. If you get something put together, be sure and hit me with a post and a link.

This bog tank is a 20gal long Turtle tank that I picked up at the LFS. I can't remember who makes them, but since I'll be ording three more in the near future I'll let you know.
