In your Opinion what power filter do you think does the job the best?

-Marineland Emperor

-Aqueon Quietflow Filter

-Aquaclear by Hagen

-Tetra Whisper

I have a marineland emperor 400 on my 40B and the water is always crystal clear. IMO the marineland filters are very powerful, but kinda loud. The aquaclears are pretty good, and have no noise what so ever. So, if I had to choose to buy one or the other I would buy the emperor again for larger tanks. For smaller tanks I would go with aquaclears:) just my 2cents.

smaller tanks as in like a 20g? :)

Yes, I would go with an aquaclear 50, but that's just me. I'm running an AC50 on my 10G shrimp tank:)

oh thats what I'm going to do. probably get an AC50 for my new 20g that I'm working on. i just wanted to see if other people have a different opinion and prefer a different power filter haha

Oh ok haha if I may make a suggestion, buy the filter off amazon, it's much cheaper:)

i wish i knew about buying it online.. cause i already have one from petco... I wonder.. i should return it... but that means I'm gonna have to wait longer to set my tank up :(

Ha Amazon Prime free trial..2 day free shipping.

I signed up for it when building my 150 planted and when it ran out I found that there was a student trial for 6 months (;

But if it's a reasonable amount higher I'd see about taking it back.

And yeah, I agree with a AC50

I have the penguin 350 which is a level down from the 400 which i still find amazing and now own 4;)

2 on my 72G, 1 on my 29G, and 1 on my 20G and they have never let me down:) Even with all my tanks stocked 100+%, I clean them out around 1X every 3 months! and the cartridges can be rinsed/cleaned and easily reused up 3X which makes it very cost effective!

EDIT: im sure the petco filter is waaaay more than amazon, so you should return

its worth it as even though you are waiting longer to setup your tank, you can use that $$$ to make it better!!!

It's this service that amazon.com provides. You have to pay a monthly or yearly (not too sure on that) fee and whatever you order gets free and fast shipping within 2 days I think:)

oh thats nice! i'll look into that later :)

The sponge inserts in the AC filters last for many years, and the bio rings probably forever. All smaller ACs can take two sponge inserts.

I am currently using both marineland and aquaclear. IMO aquaclear is the best for several reasons: more room for media, more options for media, flow control, and no "bio wheel". I know there is some controversy about this, but I have a hard time keeping nitrate levels in control on my tank with the marineland filter. I do the exact same maintenance as my other tanks, and there could be other circumstances, but I've seen this several times with friends who also use marineland filters. Just an opinion.

You can get a month free trial of it, BUT after the month it's like $80 for a year or something. Not sure about the student one.

And if you forget to cancel when it's up and they charge you, you can get the charge taken off as long as you didn't use it.

So I'd do it for free shipping.

I have a ac 70 and a penguin 200 on my 40 gal and I would g with an ac 50 for the 20 just because I like how it is a lot quieter than the penguin and how others said more room for diffrent media

I had an emperor 400 and didn't like it because of the loud noise. So I replaced it with an aqua clear 110.

For my 10g tank I replaced my penguin 150 with an aqua clear 20. I just don't like how loud the marine land filters are.

Also with aquacleae you can adjust the web feeding which is something you can't do with marineland

If you're a student you can use your school email to get amazon prime for free for 6 months. But remember to cancel it before your trial is over because theyll charge you.
