I see people on YouTube with small pico reefs all the time. So the question comes to mind. If one was to keep shrimp and coral in a five gallon tank or less would you guys use a aqueon evolve, a fluval spec III or a traditional tank? I am not going to do this as my saltwater tanks are all set up I do however know someone who wants a small reef with shrimp and corals and I want to hear your opinions.

I think I'm biased because I own an evolve. The tank works efficiently, and I've seen a few mods on YouTube for it to be a very successful saltwater tank.

Cool :) the evolve has moon LEDs where the fluval doesn't so I might go with that, and its cheaper. Although I am a fan of fluvals filtration but I'm sure i could get a foam block and make my own version.

The evolve is acrylic right? I've never used a acrylic tank, any draw backs to it?

I have a fluval spec v i enjoy thoroughly. Here is a picture if you are interested in seeing it.

Some of those corals are beautiful! I think I will go with the fluval spec because I'm going to use it for tetras probably and maybe reduce the filtration with some foam in the filter to raise some fry I have and some I am expecting. And dw ill remove the tetras so no one gets eaten. Plus the spec is glass and I prefer that rather than acrylic.

I'm not sure if this is like any of the tanks your talking about but mine is only a 9 gallon nano iv never really had a major problem with it

Thanks haha it's just had bit of a rough patch and hasn't opened up that big yet I had to move house and it didn't like it it's now only this big and all my other ones seem to be doing okay except for one of my torches I think it's melted

I got the fluval spec III in white, it's very sleek and has plenty of room for a heater in the back and is actually quite roomy. 3.65 gallons with a 2.6 gallon display and the filter is adjustable to be weak enough for my growing fry :)

I would personally get the fluval iii if you want good filtration and sturdy glass however its smaller but if you want a bigger tank get the evolve but be careful acrylic scratches and bows
