That's pretty much any saltwater predator for me. Want it like crazy but have a distinct lack of money

Motoro rays are fresh water, and depending on the type, only get to be 12 inches or so and mostly scavenge after arowana and pacu- or so I've been told. It's the yellow spotted blue flower ray (I think) that is the 17 foot brackish and hard freshwater predatory collectors ray, though I may be off by quite a bit- I had a 250g that I wanted archers and rays a long time ago so I only remember vaguely....

You def need a redic aquarium size to even think of getting a ray that grows 17 feet. I went scuba diving in Thailand and saw a few 17 foot ones hiding in little caves

I believe no less than 750- 1K gallon recreated habitats with expert handlers (multiple) are required to even have the opportunity to legitimately own one of large rays.... Waaaay too much work for me, lol, I think I'd rather just tag along with an angler out to catch rays and see them in the habitat they should be in..... NOT in an empty concrete pool!! Places along the Amazon, Orinoco and southern Mississippi are starting to have these giants show up more and more, reminds me of oscars, snakeheads and bullheads. I hope the place selling those motoros is doing it responsibly- they are quite difficult to keep if you aren't familiar with brackish cats, sharks and other salt tolerant scaleless aquaria... I can handle puffers, tobies, archer and leaf and pipefish, but sheesh, you saw what they look like all big and grown up- could you imagine trying to feed that? Not only could it probably eat you it's got several stingers and some nasty venom back up to boot.

That being said- my most outrageous oddball want is a 500g marine betta and stargazer deep sea shipwreck girl cave... Maybe someday, lol, but I am jealous, scuba in Thailand must've been unbelievable!!!!

It's as unbieveBle as you think. There is an endless amount of fish to see. I saw with a tornado of barracuda, whAle sharks, rays , and even got like 5 feet from a sea snake ( the most positioness one). Sadly no turtles tho. It's actually a really cheap trip if u ever plan it. I backpacked through Cambodia Laos and Thailand in 6 weeks. It cost me 4k all expenses included and staying at 5 star hostiles. If you ever have free time I would look into it. The only real expense is airfare and that was only 1200 round trip

Motoro stingray get to 1m / 39 inches and need a very wide tank.

The shop selling these isn't doing the fish any favours. They really need a sand substrate.

I thought the spotted stingrays were the big ones and the motoro were the dwarves that can be kept with archer fish and puffers (brackish).... OH WAIT- teacup rays is what I was thinking!!!! I've only seen 2 shops in my area that have had rays, 1 that ignorantly sells them, and the other that takes them in when their owners get upset that they were lied to about the size...

My honest mistake on the id- I agree, they shouldn't be sold to general aquarists with "large tanks". no people, a 75g or 100g is NOT a huge tank worthy of slow growing and long lived wild species.. I've been volunteering, helping out with many large exotics and I don't even think my 450g 'monster hospital' would be ok for a large ray. Though they are the most beautiful things in the wild!!! I had the opportunity to watch a mid sized wild ray in Colombia swim next to the boat (think small river raft, not large tourist boat- I am not that financially blessed) I was in when I went on a small scale amazon catch and release trip.

I would love to go mangrove snorkeling in SE Asia, like Vietnam or Cambodia, who knows what weird creatures are crawling in those lagoons...

I was in Cambodia. I wouldn't scuba dive there. I wouldn't trust the equipment at all or the people taking me. Cambodia and laos (Laos especially) are scary places. Def Thailand. Depending on the current you would Not believe the sights. You have to keep in mind they are third world countries. For all you know in Cambodia they will take u out and just leave u. Is your giant hospital tank inside somehow? Or like a giant *** pond

Dually noted on Cambodia and Laos!!! I am a first generation American born citizen, my mother is from Vietnam and we still have relatives there, I'm probably better off there, I am VERY aware of the "stupid American" mentality of many (NOT ALL!!!! There are more good eggs than bad eggs, just the bad ones tend to leave a taste in your mouth that no amount of good ones can peel from your palette) in many of the "developing" (until someone can give me the true meaning of "third world" I can't use the phrase comfortably) countries that were left war torn by the fear of communism. Thank you for the heads up.

As for my hospital tank- it's part of my aquaculture project and it's actually a big vat in the middle of a research greenhouse built on my 40 acres in the middle of nowhere. Huge steps finally being made in my effort to go 100% self sufficient before I die. For patent protection and privacy reasons (investor that lets me use his corporate account to 'spend a reasonable and justifiable amount on resources, accommodation and travel' says no photo releases until project end date in 2019) I can not post my work ANYWHERE on the internet, so, sorry guys- I'm just the bottom rung of the ladder and I am VERY respectful of Mr. Bossmans wishes :p (I know you're reading this). This is a totally off topic rant I will continue in off topic forum out of respect for OP and AA

My lfs has 3 shovel nose rays, all 10" and in a 180 with some sand sharks. Its really small for them already. You sould have to have a pool to keep one of them. .
They are really hard to keep from what ive resd aswell.

I've really always wanted to know if custom kiddie pools actually work

May work, having a return pump in the pool shooting water into another room with a sump and then another pump shooting the water back into the pool. Doesnt seem to hard except for the fact of how many wc you would have to do from the massive bioload.

I wonder if constant water changes would work. Like 5 GPM replaced completely.

Gallon per minute? I would say if the pool is like 300g i would do atleast a 50g wc twice a week which wouldnt be too much as my RODI unit is 75gpd shich equals out to around 3g an hour. Can imagine the water bill though, as my unit had 3g of waste water for every 1g of pure RODI water.

I'm talking constantly changing water, entirely replacing it. Maybe 1 gallon a minute would work, 5 seems like a lot

Yall gotta stop talking about scuba diving in murky jungle creeks because its freaking me out really bad! How could you contemplate swimming in that water filled with fish with sharp teeth, snakes, freaky bugs, allogators, and who knows what else! Sends shivers up my spine!

This is the cutest point proving statement I have seen in a long time!!! No disrespect, GodFan- I am after all a huge fan of your Gods creation 'who knows what else!' and 'freaky bugs' ;-). I'm just kidding around, not being snarky, sorry if I offend.
