What would be a good choice to keep with a red tailed shark?

I like the idea of having a planted tank but as im a beginner iv got fake plants for starters. Have a sand substrate tank though so can i convert to real plants using same sand?

Also like all fish ideas bu wont corys get eatern by shark and wouldnt the syno cat be too big for my tank?

Are you looking for oddballs, semi-aggressive, community, cichlids?

Community i think..
First go on a tropical tank so aggressive may not be the way to go. Community and cichlids go together ok?

No not usually. Most all cichlids are too aggressive for a community tank. But some cichlids like rams would be great in a community tank! They're a great and beautiful addition to any community tank. So you said you're doing a community tank right? Or cichlids?

Well was kinda thinking startin with 5-6 green barbs once tanks finished cyclin
1 red tail shark
Neon tetras and maybe a ram cichlid you speak of once iv read up a bit more.

For a community tank you could do some fish like danios, tetras, rams, some species of gouramis, some species of catfish, plecos, rasboras, rainbowfish, mollies etc.

For a semi-aggressive tank you could do barbs, loaches, some species of cichlids, some species of catfish, some species of gouramis, rainbowfish, plecos, freshwater sharks, some oddballs, etc

When you decide what tank you want just let me know for specifics and info on anything you need.

Ok so im definatly thinking semi aggressive as i had my eye on green barbs and a red tailed shark anyway. Wolud like a pleco but dont they get pretty big? What good types of cichlids would go well with these?

Good choice! The barbs would be good! But of you're looking for sharks and cichlids together you'd need to do a rainbow shark instead of a redtail due to aggression. If you wanted cichlids you could have a firemouth or a few festivums but only with a rainbow shark not a redtail. Something like a bristle nose pleco would work, I think they max out at 6 inches.

Which is most aggresssive then? Redtail/rainbow/cichlids?

I'm gonna have to say cichlids. I've never had my red tail or my rainbow actually hurt anyone, just chase them off. Cichlids on the other hand I've noticed go straight in for a nip.

Out of the cichlids I showed you id say the redtail shark is the most aggressive out of those.

But if you're talking cichlids in general then they would be more aggressive than a shark.

If i ditched the cichlids then could i get say 1 redtail and 2 rainbows or is that out of the question?

Not that i want to ditch them, just reviewibg my options.
