Update on the HC Cuba and Glosso I put in a terrarium a few months ago. The HC Cuba (upper left) is sending out runners with roots. The Glosso (upper right) is auditioning for "Plants Gone Wild". The rest are mosses from a kit. The terrarium sits on a window sill facing SE. The only care is occasional misting.

I might setup more of these to do DSM with the HC Cuba. Of course there will be the setback do to uprooting and transplanting to take into consideration. But this looks like an easy way to increase plant mass.

I can't help but think this would make an excellent shrimp bowl or shrimplet nursery.

Thanks! Low maintenance, set it and forget it. Spritz it once a week and every now and then I take the top off and let it "air out".

Looking good!
So just natural light here?
One is next to a window and the other is in a foyer near a decorative lamp.

There was a BOWL thread on AA a few years back and folks kept everything from snails to shrimp to nano fish. I could not find it, however.

Looks nice! I bet it'd be cool to do this with one of the cool colored Crypts, such as Crypt wendtii "Florida Sunset". I might do a mini project like this one day.

Yes, I will try to find the bowl thread.

That looks awesome, like a wabi kusa...?

Too dry for wabi kusa. BrianNano12's wabi kusa tank was like a piece of art.

Awesome thread. A while back, but pops up now and again!

You can post onto it just make the note at the bottom about that even if it is old you want to reply.

Had to switch to web view to navigate to the proper thread (else, the dreaded mystery thread from 2002).
Technically, it is a planted bowl. Just without the water. Might make a decent environment for small salamanders (I used to find two-lined salamander larvae in local streams). Even though it is near a window, there are plenty of hiding spaces under the moss.

Hey all! I need to make some room so I will have plenty of Staur repens needing a new home. Both trimmings and whole plants. PM me.
Here is a FTS from this evening:

I spend less than 10 minutes a day with the tanks for viewing/feeding/ferts; water change and trimming days get more time.
The extra room is for the HC Cuba. I found these plastic spheres and I am planning on growing out the HC Cuba in these new "terrariums". I added a small amount of EcoComplete as a base:

Next, I added and leveled out some potting soil:

Hopefully will plant these by the weekend.

I think the pH is in the 7.2-7.6 range; have not tested it in a while.
Some pics of the HC Cuba in one of the terrariums. Lots of root filled runners. Planning on planting these in the new "orb" terrariums I set up this weekend.

Will grow these next to the window since this appears to be working fine.

Oh, I've heard of it. Here are two threads I used to follow here:
WABI KUSA - First attempt, Planted Emersed Pico
Wabi kusa & Planted Ball Growing
I've already got the spheres filled with EC and dirt so no going back now. I don't fertilize the moss terrariums so I'm curious on the effects of additional ferts will be on these terrariums with the HC Cuba.

The latter pic was taken late at night, thus the closed up leaves. Still planning on removing a bunch of Staur repens because I need more room for the Downoi and HC Cuba. Glosso is like aquatic kudzu but looks nice if it is managed. AR mini getting a bit taller than I like.
So if you want some staurs, give me a shout.
