The case of the dissappearing cardinal & neon tetras...H

It really would help if you gave us yoru water changing regime and water test results. I wonder just as a base guess if they went into shock because of temperature issues, or water parameters, or they were too stressed somehow. I definetly re-examine your filter however. If 2 of them got in...

    Freeze Dried Blood Worms

I can't see how they could come back to life if they are already freeze dried, unless they have some mysterious property like brine shrimp eggs.... Sounds to me that something else got introduced into the tank.

    New Penguin 150 Bio-wheel

Saturday morning I had unplugged my original penguin biowheel 150 (Size B Filters) to do a small cleaning of my tank, and upon re-plugging in...it stopped working. :? There was no incication of trouble, no smoke, no noice, simply....stopped. So I had to run to the LFS and noticed that there...

Thought I treat my fish with...grow it yourself shrimp brine

Well, I bought this odd looking black plastic box from the San francisco Bay Shrimp company in which it claims you can grow your own live shrimp brine in 18-40 hours. Anyone try this? Basically mix contents of included package with regular tap water and mix until salt is dissolved. Cover box...

Over 2 months and cycling is still only a half way through??

As much as you may hate hearing this... Patience my young Padawan... I have a very small tank compared to yours and it took forever.. When it starts to cycle you'll know. Believe me. I think mine took about 2 months to start cycling, and almost an additional month went by before it completed.

    naturally lowering ph

Be careful with drift wood. I suggest buying some from your LFS as it should be safe. Otherwise, driftwood you just 'pick up' may contain parasites or some unknown/unsafe chemical that may leech into your tank and do more harm than good. If you do a search here, I think i remember once seeing...

    dwarf gourami tank mates? 10g

Danio's are good. Maybe some smaller tetra's like the redish/pinkish Serpae. Before my dwarf gourami passed away he got along with all his tank mates. I even have a single red wag platy.

    Live Brine treats vs. filtration

As sorta fun science project/thing-to-do with my step-daughter, I've been thinking of hatching some live brine shrimp to feed my tank. My question to you is, once you are ready to begin feeding your tank, can you avoid them from possibly getting sucked up into the filter intake tube. I have a...

    bacteria?

Are they solid, or look more like being able to pass through. Perhaps if it is a new piece of drigtwoord, maybe someting is leeching of it, like a natural chemical. Did you have water parameters before and after? I'd check it out to be safe.

Submersible Heater - Whats with the Line?

Well, I'll take a stab at it at least: I'll assume you do not pass the line for the sheer fact that other than teh glass tubing is concerned, anytime that heater of any type has a dial, there is a pivot point that cannot be 100% sealed from water. I imagine over time that trace minerals in...

    Cycling a new tank.

I have a 16 gal aquarium, and I stared off with 4 zebra danios. My cycle took almost 4 weeks to even begin, and once it did, boy did I notice!! It took another 6-7 weeks once it started to finish it's cycle. I know a lot of people preach patience, but I know the feeling....it's very hard to...

    Feeding the fish

I agree with all above but I'll add my $0.02 anyway: I find that feeding 1 to 2 times a day is okay. I sprinkle a very small amount of food in and let them devour it all before I add anymore. I alternate between sinking pellets and floating flakes, as some fish have different comfort zones as...
