using water from the other tank is not going to help the new tank cycle. using filter media from the other tank will. i would just vacuum it up like was suggested already, and also monitor levels of ammonia. be prepared to do several weekly water changes for a while.

You just set it up on Sunday? Did you cycle the tank? I can't really see what's going on in the photo, but is it a clear slime? Or is it brownish? Looks brownish in the photo to me. Are you testing the water, at least the ammonia levels? Fish behaving normally?

I usually let it grow on the back wall. I like the look of it, too..and think it can be beneficial and aesthetically pleasing as long as it is kept under control and assuming it is not the result of any issues with water chemistry.

Assuming this is an established tank and you are normally diligent about doing your weekly changes, one week should not hurt. Perhaps just top off any water lost to evaporation and then get back on your normal schedule next week? Otherwise, is there anybody around that could give you a hand...

Don't use soapy water or any type of detergent. Also, think about how you would like to cycle the tank for the next try at it. Think it all through and do not make impulse purchases.
