malkore, A tap water test comes up clean on Nitrites. A 50% water change will not lower the Nitrite level sufficiently to read on the card, it takes 75%-90% to bring it down to the lightest purple color. I'm at work so I can't check the card for the actual PPM numbers.

As posted above... painting is so much easier than a background, you dont have to worry about the water on the back, in between the background and the glass, just looks so much more professional. i used blcak on all of my tanks, and am quite pleased. just used acrylic paint and a roller....

Also check Aquarium World, south side of 290 around Fairbanks, look for the NTB store and turn into that shopping center. They have nice tanks and I rarely see dead fish. They have a nice selection of SW and FW fish.
