    Anyone use Via Aqua pumps?

They seem like a quiet powerful pump. They can be had cheap if you shop around enough. The local pond supplier recommended it. I need a replacement for my Little Giant. Never heard of Via Aqua before tho. It sounds like a pumping machine! 1321 GPH at 0' for less than $100. Don't know tho, might...

    Anybody using a Wave2K?

This is a new(?) surge device for sps tanks. Looks awesome. A guy in our reef club is using one and loves it. Haven't seen it in action yet though. Looks promising. $200 isn't too expensive relative to reef tank stuff. http://www.wave2k.com/

New actinic bulbs - look great

I just installed 4 new T8 48" 32W actinic bulbs made by Zoo-Med. Never used these bulbs before but got a great deal at Big Al's. Less than $12 ea. and only $6.95 shipping! I'm using these on a T12 electronic ballast. They are BRIGHT. I can almost light the tank (75g) with just these. They are...

    Tank Warfare

Here is a nice pic of a frogspawn attacking a Bullesye mushroom with a feeder tentacle. The mushroom has been shrinking over the last half hour. The FS won't let go and I haven't intervened. I'm not sure what the outcome will be.

    Corner tanks

I had some idle time to I went looking at all-glass aquarium's site (bad idea) to look at different sized tanks. It's almost time to up size my puffer tank to my 75. I'll need a new reef tank then :thumb: A 120 (48x24x24) would fit nicely in the spot but I saw a 92 gal corner tank. 34" on a...

    Shriveling shrooms

My blue and pink shrooms have been doing poorly lately. Even after 30% water change. 'trate = 0, amm/trite = 0, pH 8.2, SP 1.024 @ 82F Hairy shrooms are thriving. Seems to be only the "smooth" variety. I gave some to a friend who put them in a new tank and they are doing very well. I can't...

    Iwasaki MH base

hellolights has a 400W Iwasaki 6500K for $58. They say it has an E40 base but I don't think so. An E40 is 70mm (European) and regular MH are E39 (39mm) I think. Does anyone use Iwasaki bulbs? What size base do they use? Specifically it's their Color Arc 6500K Metal Halide. Mark

    STDS (Sudden Tang Death Syndrome)

My Yellow up and died yesterday. Eating the day before, fat and sassy, no visible signs of stress. Checked water: amm = 0 nitrite = 0 'trate = 0 pH = 8.0 temp = 82.7 F SP = 1.0225 (little low but not enough to kill IMO) I've heard of Tangs dying suddenly but not after 4 years. It was pretty...

Kalkwasser use in a reef tank

This thread was split off since it was going in a different direction. -Mark I will address the kalkwasser supply problem. Living in the country should make your life easier. Folks in the country make more pickles than city folk so your local grocery store should stock pickling lime. I use...

    Limpet eggs

I posted a pic in my album of a limpet that looks like it is carrying eggs in it's shell. I have seen Cerith lay eggs on the glass but not the Limpets. Perhaps this is why, they carry the eggs until they hatch.(?) Mark

    Aiptasia eating Peppermint shrimp

Before someone recommends using peppermint shrimp to eat aiptasia, I thought I would remind folks of this link that delineates the differences between the aiptasia eating and non-aiptasia eating peppermint shrimp. The differences are subtle but their affect on aiptasia is not. :P...

    Dreaming of a pond

I have a 12X24 inground swimming pool that I only need to keep for a couple more years for the kids. After that, it's turning into a pond. Can't wait, but it gives me time to plan it out. I'm looking forward to some great threads here... Mark
