    snail problem

Yeah, I had another friend recommend Had a Snail. I'm going to look for it this weekend. I was hoping to just fish them out, but to be honest, a week of that has not improved the numbers. I fear for my plants... :) They appear umm not sure what you mean by trumpet shaped. They have a shell...

    snail problem

I posted it here: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=9558 but was wondering if anyone wanted to add anything. Basically, I am fishing about 5-10 snails out of my tank per day.

    Betta lights ???

One of my 2.5 betta tanks has a hood/light on top of it with a fluorescent 15 watt bulb. To be honest, he doesn't seem to mind it at all. I'd say go for it, as long as it doesn't produce intense heat like some halogen light or something. It might help that I have a glass cover.

    2.5 g any ideas?

Bettas look nice in small 2.5 gal tanks. Click on my gallery link in the sig or side, and you can see my setups. Bettas are hard to make out in the pics, but I'll get more sometime soon. Besides, you won't need filters or bubbles or anything if you use bettas. Just a weekly water change...

    unwanted snails

Being new to fish and aquatic plants, you can guess that I have incurred a minor snail invasion. Unfortunately, while I've read that some people like that, I honestly don't want to deal with them and their growing numbers. They're not bad now, but just want to keep control of what's going on...

Bubble Blowing Betta....but is he really happy?

By the way, there's not much more to the bubble nest. Sometimes they make the nests more in the open, and eventually they float to the side while being made, due to water tension properties. The best part of bubble nests is watching the little guys make them. They get good at it, and not only...

Bubble Blowing Betta....but is he really happy?

What happens if you have a betta that likes to swim laps in a 2.5 gal? :) My red betta loves to just wriggle back and forth near the front of the tank like he's exercising. Oddly, he's never been much of a bubbler either yet, but he otherwise seems quite content and has no odd behavior or...

    Story to turn your stomach...

I don't want to sound like I'm defending bad practices or bad stores, but let me play devil's advocate for a second. What someone said about bad batches is true, sometimes there are bad batches. This doesn't mean the store was horrible, or inhumane. It happens. Fish die to the best of...

gallery is up: pics of my betta tanks

Yeah, both of those tanks are little 2.5 gal $8 jobs from PetSmart. They're positioned so that I just have to pull my phone away and take a small piece of cardboard from beside the blue guy's tank, and they can see each other. Otherwise, there is some cardboard in the way (with a strip of...

gallery is up: pics of my betta tanks

I'd call these pics of my bettas, but it's been a while since I broke out the digital camera, so I didn't do so hot in getting viewable shots of them. But I did get nice pics of their tanks, however. Oh, and yes, it was taken about 2 hours before a water change. :) Anyway, just thought I...

Rather than lay the food in the tank, try throwing it in.

    Had to say goodbye....

A friend of mine has had some fish in the past. Once his fish looked beyond repair or were suffering, he would fish them out of the tank, grab a pair of scissors, and snip his head off. I think I would prefer the alcohol and clove oil...

    bettas in community tank?

Hey, just thought I would give an update here. My 5 starter Danios have been alive and active ever since I got them. A friend suggested that one was a female, as she's a bit bigger and did some bullying the first day or two, and I think I agree with her. The danios eat well, play around, dart...

What's wrong with my poor betta?

I have two bettas at work, and they both sometimes sleep on the gravel or plants as well. When they were in very small hex containers, they tended to lay at the bottom resting a lot. Now they're both in 2.5 gal tanks and are much more active and seem much happier. Both of my tanks have one...

NO2 or NO3 test kit more important

Definitely Ammonia and Nitrites. :) Nitrates don't come around until after Nitrites anyway, so you can put off getting it if it's a matter of being able to afford it next paycheck. Ammonia and Nitrites are the toxic ones.

new to plants...I'm sure you've all read this before...

:P The dimensions are extremely rough, like I said. I used a broken school ruler that has survived high school and college (barely). So it's by no means something that should be used to calculate my gallons. :) 29 gal is probably right...as I don't think I was 6 inches off on the length.

new to plants...I'm sure you've all read this before...

Measurements are very rough: height: 17.5 inches width: 12 inches length: 30 inches Another question: Do plants use the Nitrates that are made from nitrites? I imagine they do, since non-aquatic ones do.. I bought a Nitrate test just to assuage my fears that my nitrites aren't being convert...
