Long Hiatus, New fish: Brachyrhamdia imitator C. brevirostris

It's been a long while since I've been active on this forum (school and what not). And fish keeping has taken a back seat but here's my latest acquisition: It's a small naked catfish that interestingly has a similar patterning to several species of corydora such as C. melanistus and C...

Need fish suggestions for 30 gal community

Neither blood parrots or a pair of angels should be kept in a 30g long term. The latter gets far too large and the former gets too aggressive/large.

    Houston Water Help

For fw. Straight out of the tap is fine. It comes out 7.4ph, 30ppm Ca and 4ppm Mg where I'm at. Don't worry about it. You will not have a problem. As for RO, getting your own RODI system will be easiest. I have one installed (that I rarely use now since I don't do low ph planted tanks...

    tips curling

Yes I believe it is a deficiency. One of my swords had it and it started growing normally when I added an extra root tab. I think that it has some thing to do with calcium. I'm not 100% on it. The easiest way to fix it is to just fertilize with a root tab/

The bane of your fishkeeping existance!

Get a big old horse syringe (500ml) or turkey baster to draw water up and over the tank edge. Or you can fill the hose halfway with tap water, tilt the hose until you have water going into the tank then just drop it, the siphon should start without using your mouth. *Edit oh you're using a...

    Flourish vs ph...

Excel shouldn't change PH. I would also like to point out that Excel is a carbon source and will not provide micros/macros to your tank. As for the rocks it really depends on what type it is. Is it like slate? or Volcanic? Most of the time rocks will raise your pH and KH

    Flourish vs ph...

Don't think you should blame the flourish. I doubt it can lower pH very much. If anything it'd be only slightly acidic or neutral.

No. I have not heard of it. How much are you dosing to what volume of water? What were you measuring ph with?

    green algea on rocks

I think it's just natural build up then...a scrubbing every other month should be okay. Worse comes to worse you can either: Plant some pothos with its roots hanging into the water. Raise the lights up higher Put window mesh on the light imo most "algae eaters" aren't going to give you...
