How much Flourish Comprehensive per 5 Gallons?

That sounds about right to me. You won't need much for a 5 gallon. FYI, if you put too much in, it will speed up your algae growth. I learned that one the hard way.

    Dead Loach?

I found my 2 cats sitting by it staring at it like they didn't know what to do with it. Pretty comical, but still kinda sad.

    Dead Loach?

Thanks. I had heard that. I definitely wouldn't flush a live fish. I just don't know if this one's alive or not. He's in the freezer now though, so by tomorrow, he'll be unquestionably dead. I figured the freezer was better than risking him get picked on by the other fish tonight.

    Dead Loach?

I just came home to one of my loaches laying on the floor in front of the tank. I question how he got there, but I noticed his gills moving, so I quickly threw him back in the water. Now he's laying at the bottom upside down, but his gills are still moving like he's breathing. Is this normal...

    Bloated Serpae, Sick or Pregnant?

Thanks. I have 2 angels, 2 diamond tetras, 4 neon tetras, 3 serpae tetras, 3 botia kubotai (loaches) and 2 algae eaters. I feed them 1/2 teaspoon of flakes and 1 of those sinking discs (for the loaches) a day. I didn't think I was overfeeding, but I could be wrong.

    Bloated Serpae, Sick or Pregnant?

I came home tonight to one of my serpae tetras looking funny. He/she looks like the belly has ballooned up. Has anyone experienced this before? Pics are posted below. I included one of my normal tetras for a frame of reference. Thanks In advance for your thought!

    Canister filters

I have a 26 gallon tank that I currently have 2 backflow filters on. I'm looking to put a canister filter on the tank instead. I was wondering people's thoughts on good/not so good brands. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!!

Adding a second filter to my tank

I hadn't thought of that, but it certainly makes sense. I'll have to just start paying closer to the flow. Thanks for your response. I appreciate it!!!

Adding a second filter to my tank

Okay, you've caught my interest. I have a 29 gallon that I just added a second filter to last weekend. I added it because I felt my one carbon/floss filter was getting way too dirty too quickly. I'm definitely not overstocked and not feeding too much. I just checked both filters tonight and...

    Freshwater live plant food!!! HELP!!!

Never heard of it. I use liquid carbon for my plants. They seem to like it!

Hey Guinness--what kind of plant is that behind your mystery fish? I like it!

my neon tetras are being killed

Very strange. Have you checked your filter?

    Attack of the snails!

Thanks. He's been quite active, and the fish store said having 1 was ok, so I never gave it any thought. But, I overly obsess about the happiness of my fish, so I'll have to look into it!

    Attack of the snails!

That's definitely him! Thanks to you and mumma.of.2 for finding him. I should go write that down so I don't forget!!

    Attack of the snails!

I just researched it a but and think its a dwarf loach. They get to 2.5 inches, which sounds about right. I'm concerned 'cause it too says to keep it in a school with a minimum of 5. What happens if a schooling fish doesn't have a school?

    Attack of the snails!

Can you tell from these? He got shy when I got the camera out. :)

    Attack of the snails!

Okay, I may have some other kind of loach then. The fish store said I only needed 1 and he wouldn't get any bigger than 3 inches or so. I like the lettuce idea though. That sounds like it would work really well. I wish I thought of that!!!!!

    Attack of the snails!

I, too, had a "1 snail turned into dozens of snails" problem. I tried picking them out and taking them to the neighborhood pond as I saw them, but I couldn't keep up. Aquarium Adventure suggested getting a clown loach fish, and he seemed to do the trick. I only see one or two snails at any...

How to clean outside of tank

Have you tried cleaning it with the tank light out? Maybe with the tank light out and a dimly lit room? Just a thought. I haven't had that problem. Good luck!

Algae stop solution, does it work

I had the same problem. I found out that I had my light on too long. I ended up getting a timer for my light. Light should be on 6-8 hours a day. I also bought a couple of algae-eating fish. They're in heaven and doing a pretty good job of keeping the algae under control.

    Baby fish?

26 gallons. I have 5 other fish and plants. I wonder how often (and how much) fish reproduce. A few babies are okay. Too many could get too crowded.

    Baby fish?

I'm new to the fish tank hobby. I have had 4 diamond tetras for about 2 months, and now I have 4 baby fish swimming around in the back of the tank. Will the adults really eat the babies? If they don't, do I need to be concerned about the population in my tank getting out of control?

    hardy (peaceful) tetras

Have you considered diamond tetras? They're interesting looking and not too expensive. They're what the fish store suggested I start my new fish tank with.
