Ph is stable in both tanks at 7.4, never seen a ph crash in either tanks. 33g has sand bought from pets at home, not sure what type it is but very fine. 17g has black pea sized smooth gravel also from the lfs.

I have been running 2 tanks side by side for some 4 months now, 33g and 17g. I cannot seem to get get the 17g cycled. I always have nitrite show up after 4-5 days. I have even moved the much larger filter from the 33g to the 17g, this has made no difference. Incidentally the 33g is still doing...

Yes, I've looked into that option, but rehoming the fish is much cheaper! ;) Its sad because they all bring a little something, and I don't want to part with any :(

Stunning fish! I was thinking of getting some of these....and that has made my mind up! I was worried how my dwarf gourami would react.

I inherited 2 yoyos when I bought my 33g. Very fun fish and not nippy at all. They just swim together and chase each other all around the tank. I've read that at least 3 is the magic number, but I think I will stick to 2 tbh.

Thanks, i was just looking some of the others in the batch. Some of them are a lot lighter, smaller and almost clear. Perhaps I have a mixture of amano and ghost! Or maybe they just need to mature.

I got them for £1 each, but this wasn't the owner of the shop. I asked of they were ghost, he said yes. Another guy, about 12!, piped in that they were amanos.

They are clear mostly, some of them have a line of dark spots running down their side though, which makes me wonder.

Picked up 10 of these today and bought them as ghost shrimp. Are they ghost shrimp? I did hear someone else in the shop mention they were amano?

Thanks, I'll do that. I see a lot has settled on the gravel, but the water itself seems to be clearing well. I'll give it a good gravel vac and see if it has made the situation any better.

I was having a few cycling issues with my 17g. I couldn't get the nitrites to zero an built up in 4-5 days back to 0.5ppm. To help it out i decided to squeeze the filter media out of my 33g cycled tank. It seemed a good idea at the time. I didn't really anticipate just how much stuff was going...

It often helps to just get it down in black & white, then you can see it staring you right in the face ;) I am going to reduce the stock though and add more seeded media, just to help out :)

Nitrites have been showing up for the last 9 weeks! I get them to zero by PWC and then 4-5 days later they start showing up again. This makes me think the filter is not up to it? When i started, i did a fish in cycle with 5 red eye tetras and thought I was there. I moved the red eyes into my 33...

Stock list looks ok and doable. My only concern is that neon and black neon tetras are tiny and will look lost in your tank- you will also spend a lot time looking at nothing! I do! They are also quite difficult to keep due to captive breeding. I would suggest some larger tetra and guppy, platy...
