    Fluval Chi Shrimp Tank log

Got it a week ago with the A.R mini from a local hobbyist. It was a bright purple when I got it and I think it's starting to get more pinkish/orange-ish as of late. Really hope it'll stay at least a little red to contrast the HC. Might wanna start dosing nutrients now? Also, still looking for...

    Fluval Chi Shrimp Tank log

Thanks! :) I'm starting to notice a slow creep of Staghorn algae coming and I have no idea how to even attempt getting rid of it. :T Might be because the flow in my tank is pretty weak?

    Fluval Chi Shrimp Tank log

Been pretty busy with work the past month so here's a little update! Added Limnophila Aromatica in the backleft corner and A.R mini in the backright. There's some Staruogyne Repens in a crevice at the top of the ''mountain'' but it's hard to see until it's grown upwards a little. Might be...

Welp, I just discovered a ton of hair algae in my tank :c Anyone know how to get rid of it? I'm gonna try to increase my canister's flow rate and reduce my photoperiod

You misplaced the bag with the nerites in them? Are they in the house or what?

    Fluval Chi Shrimp Tank log

Alright, found 2 hitchhikers in my tank. Confirmed to be Rabbit snails. What should I do with them? The internet gives me varied answers so I don't know what to think of them.

    Can anyone identify this snail?

It doesn't look like MTS because it's a dark black and the shell is ridged and isn't as sharp as the MTS, so I have no idea what it is. Please bear with my crappy camera quality :T

It's a little worse for wear, but is this Anubias Petite Nana?

I'm planning on getting Blue Pearl shrimp, or cheap Blue Pearls (that are barely blue) and just start selectively breeding them. How well insulated is your house? The heat at my house is only around 60-65 degrees on average

Employees get fired at Dunkin' Donuts for giving their day old donuts away. Wouldn't be surprised because it takes away a potential customer, I hate big businesses sometimes....

    Fluval Chi Shrimp Tank log

That's a good idea. Maybe I'll take some posterboard/construction paper to put as a backdrop. As for plants on top of the stone, any idea of plants that wouldn't need to be dug into the substrate? Don't really know about anubias since its leaves are pretty broad (unless there are smaller leaved...

I do have a canister filter! It's sitting just right of the tank, you can kinda see it through the cloudy-ish water. (Anyway to fix that at the moment?) Don't know if I want to invest in an inline heater...Poor college kids have to eat too Planning on Blue Pearl Shrimp for now, possibly...

    Fissidens Splachnobryoides

People that decide to dump plants they don't need into lakes and they become invasive ruin the plant business for the rest of us.

    Fluval Chi Shrimp Tank log

Not my first tank, but this is my first tank with co2, so i'm kinda green, still playing around with the system. This is gonna be a shrimp only tank with otocinclus catfish, and that's about it. Need help deciding what plants to fill in though. Was thinking S. Repens in the back left and A...

I was planning on getting Downoi too, but I want to leave the sand untouched. Might not be able to see it, but the substrate at the top of the mountain is divided by a thin wall of rock, so maybe I'll put the Downoi on the left side and leave the bigger patch for something else?

I have been to Pacific, that was where I usually went before I found Monster Aquarium in Flushing. Everything there was really nice, (although a bit overpriced), but it was wayy out of my way to get there. Never been to Fauna before, might check it out myself. Not too worried about finding...

Now that you mention it, the leaves of AR mini are kinda big...Not sure what else to replace it with though as AR mini was one of the only that fit the criteria of compact red plant. Also, any ideas on a plant for the top of the mountain?

    Substrate alternative

People also use regular plant fertilizer and then cap it with sand so the dirt doesn't end up flying everywhere
  21. JokerWx13

    Teen aquarists

Right! I've been looking for finer-leaved plants as well as a black backdrop to make the tank look bigger than it actually is

Yup, NYC! And I bought some fissidens the other day and glued it to ledges on the cliff (where the light shines on the rock instead of shadows) facing the front. Will update if needed

That's what I was planning! :) Put something like A. Reineckii 'mini' in the patch to the right, leave the sand open and maybe a brighter green/'sunset-ish' midground plant in the backleft corner. Don't know what the top of the ''mountain'' should have though, it'll kind of be the centerpiece.

I'm a college student in NY so I'm super poor when it comes to buying stuff I want. This is my Fluval Chi that I recently set up (been doing the drystart method for my Dwarf Baby Tears) Need some help deciding on what to put in the blank spaces, any recommendations? No animals in the tank yet...
