Wow, have you tried Bug Bites?

I go the 1.6 oz size, and it was only about $6. It will last my fish a good long time, and I have three tanks. I don't use it as a staple food, just once or twice a week. I feed my fish a large variety of foods.

Wow, have you tried Bug Bites?

I ordered Bug Bites Tropical formula, as I have mostly mollies, bettas, rasboras, a Bolivian and Dojo Loaches. I didn't expect much. In fact, I wondered if they'd even eat them. They loved them! Every one of them! I was just wondering how others' fish liked them. I use them once or twice a...

Can a betta tank be too big?

I agree that a tank can never be too big for a fish. Have you ever seen a betta, taken out of the cups certain stores sell them in, when you release them into a bigger tank? They swim back and forth quickly, finally able to stretch out, and I don't think I've ever seen a happier sight. I swear...

    Risky addition?

Do you mean Black Ghost Knife fish? They grow to 20 inches long, did you know this? They are scaleless, making them more prone to disease, and are generally for the more experienced fish keeper. They are generally peaceful with other tankmates, as long as they aren't small enough to be eaten...

    New balloon fish making waves

Goldfish prefer 68-75 degree water. Mollies 78-80. As has been said already, they should not be kept together. Don't raise the temp to 85! Much too high for goldfish! And if I could only remember all the times these pet shop people have given me bad advice, not to mention not wanting to admit...

    Need opinions. Marble? Or grizzle?

Got this new little girl today. She's 1.5 inches long. Do you think she'll be a marble? Or maybe a grizzle? Thanks!

    Fish not eating.

I feed Formula Two and Emerald Entree, in addition to brine shrimp (all frozen) on different days, as well as various flakes and pellets. They like a variety and it will sometimes perk up their appetites.

Whats wrong with my new betta?!

Maybe he's old? Sometimes they sell older breeders when they are too elderly to breed anymore. Or maybe he's just taking a while to adjust. Every betta is different. I've had so many, and some are out and swimming around from the first day, as if it had always been their home. I've had a couple...

    Is this a prolapse?

Well, she died overnight. She only had the prolapse for two days, and didn't look to be suffering. So it must have been uterine prolapse. Oh, the sacrifice she made to have babies! I feel bad.

    Ive lost my fish

I had that happen too--a betta got stuck in a plastic plant near the bottom and suffocated. That's why I have never bought another plastic plant. It's either silk, cloth, or real. Please let us know when you find him! Poor dear. . .

when to turn down the heater

I have treated for ich with a temperature hike quite a few times. For me, 2 weeks from the day the temperature is raised has worked every time.

Fish diseases we can catch :0

I give up. Everything I wrote is true. It IS a threat, and everyone should wear gloves. Did you even read the link I posted? I'm guessing not. There are several others as well, if you care to Google it. It exists, and there are many pictures of what it can do as well on Google images. Anyone who...

Fish diseases we can catch :0

And, as a side note, I did not ask for a doctor's report. I didn't feel it was necessary, as my doctor got me on the right antibiotic, and my abscess wounds healed, and I continued to improve. I did a tremendous amount of research on this disease at home, and of course the infectious diseases...

Fish diseases we can catch :0

May I ask if you've ever even read about Microbacterium Marinum? I was in no way over exaggerating. People can from this disease if not treated with the appropriate antibiotics. Once I started the effective antibiotic, I began to get better within a week. I cannot believe how uninformed most...

    Betta suffocating?

I agree, a gentle air bubbler might be a good idea. Just make sure it doesn't make the current worse. And DO buffer the current--it's almost always too much for bettas. And one of those betta hammocks (a fake leaf that attaches to the glass with a sucker cup) placed an inch to 1.5 inch below the...

Fish diseases we can catch :0

WARNING: I had Microbacterium Marinum, and I got it from the fish tank. Fish tuberulosis. And yes, it is ZOONOTIC. Meaning, humans can catch it. I had a little cut on my hand, and that's all it took. My doctor had never seen a case. The original spot progressed to four abscesses on my arm. I...

    Is this a prolapse?

My balloon Molly, Elizabeth, had babies today. (At least I think it was her--not positive). Anyway, she looks like she might have a prolapse (?) I will post a pic. Is there anything I can do for her? I don't want her to suffer. She's acting normally. Thanks!

Using Dry Seaweed Strips as Flake Food?

I feed it too, on occasion. Maybe once every 10 days or so. Lots of my fish seem to like it.

    Some New Fish

Yes to what Snowdr said! I have used my battery air pumps on three occasions when the power went out. It saves the fish, and the batteries last a long time!

    African Butterfly Fish Compatibility

I would be concerned about the danios. The biggest reason would be food. If you drop live food in for the ABF, the danios will surely take it away before the ABF even has a chance at it. The ABF is slow and sure when he stalks his prey, depending on how hungry he is. Danios are piggies, and so...

    Gourami Tankmates & General Questions

I wouldn't put an Opaline in anything smaller than a 40, personally. A 15 or even a 20 is just too small. No swimming room, really. If you really want a gourami, try a Honey gourami. They are the least aggressive of all the gouraimis, and the ones I've had have been very friendly. However, even...
