Its a mixture of the mother/father eating them, and other fish in the tank...which is why I want to seperate them.

I dont think they are mouth brooders... From the few times they have laid eggs and the babies are free swimming immediately... The mother and father do round them up in their mouths, which might make it difficult to net them out....

I take it your Jacks are fairly young?.. I had one a while back and it got about 8inches or so... I usually use the rule of 1" of fish per gallon I dont know if anyone else uses that, but thats usually what I try to keep under

Im debating on removing all the babies from my tank to house in a small 2.5 gallon kids tank... my problems with previous litters has been other fish eating them. I do have a couple questions. The fry are albino convicts.. (they do breed easy) What should they eat? Ive read fry go for flakes...

I mix mine. I have mostly cichlids, and I use medium cichlid pellets for them, but for smaller fish that cant fit the pellets in their mouth, and the other fish in the tank I use a mix of tropical and goldfish flake..... They all seem to like it.

Ive read up a little on some DIY stands, and heres my 2 questions. Ive seen some use 2X4's and some use 4X4's ... which should I use for a 55 gallon? The price difference is a decent increase to 4X4s . Ive also seen 1 article where a builder used L brackets when assembling... Or are long wood...

Ive got 2- 55's and want to put some snails in them. If anyone has any they would like to get rid of...Id be glad to pay shipping. Maybe a small amount of $$ depending on what and how many. I do realize they breed insanely and soon you are overun... I had some years back in my old tank. 8O

When cichlids like convicts breed do you separate the fry from the parents and put them in a grow tank? I seem to have fry around every month or so... but after a few days they seem to disappear. Do I seperate all the fry from both parents, or just the father? Also If I do seperate, what do...

I have had good luck with the convicts....they just eat their babies (I think)

I dont do online buying, havent tried it yet, but it seems alot of people do. I mostly stick to the regular 2 local shops. Sometimes check out wally world or pet smart to see what they mispriced

Its tough... I sadly say I probably dont clean it enough. Its something I have to work on. I guess a Python would work. I usually just use my regular syphon and do my best.

Wierd. I have had my 2 large Pleco's for almost 6 years now.... Ive had no problems with them even making an attempt.
