LemurLad
Aquarium Advice Freak
I'm sitting at the computer, browsing through posts, chattin' with a buddy, I just got done with 3 final projects, all is well in the world of LemurLad. Then I ponder to myself, "How are my fishies doing today?"
The badis and the puffers in my 20gal are as hungry as ever.
My dwarf gourami is bossing around the other gouramis in the main 10gal.
The 40 gallon project is bone dry, for now...
How about the other 10 gal? How are the glowlight danios and white clouds getting along in their temporary home?
Admittedly, the first thing I notice is that the water level is awfully low.
"That's strange," I think to myself as I turn back to the computer.
I whip my head around and my eyes widen with horror, "Dear sweet mother of fish."
With the speed of a mako shark, I dash for my trusty aquarium pitcher and a nice big net, fearing that the HUGE crack could burst at any moment.
Thankfully, it's a short dash.
After I turn off the filter, heater and air pump, I remove the hood and hardscape and get to work with the net. Soon, I have all 12 fish in the pitcher, but where to put them...?
They could go in the other tanks, but the temperature is almost 10 degrees higher and I don't have time to waste! So I grab my handy-dandy spare 5gal.
"Aah! Where's that siphon hose?!" No time! I spy a clean red party cup and start bailing the water out of the 10gal and into the 5!
When there's enough in there to support the fish, I dump them in from the pitcher and start transferring water over via a hose. But siphoning begins in disaster and I nearly inhale some gravel!
(I happen to be dressed in a suit for much of this process)
The 5 gal fills up and I swap the two tanks and plug everything back in. Hooray!
In the end they may be pretty overcrowded, but no fish was hurt, no serious water damage occured, and a glorious pumpkin-pie-filled celebration ensued.
