You will get better gas exchange with an open top. You can have the best of both worlds if you use egg crate for the cover. :) Pretty cheap at home depot or Lowes and will allow the air circulation AND keep the jumpers in the tank.

That could work too. :)

It will still most likely be a salt creep magnet though, kinda like having a glass cover. lol

very true its just 62 degrees in my basement and the evaporation in my nano is terrible without a cover. i guess it just depends on how warm the room is if you need a cover like that

Speaking of covers, just had to put the glass lids back on my 125g to keep a new tilefish IN the tank. LOL I expect my pH to drop a tad and the water to heat up a bit. Sigh, silly jumpers.....lol

Okay so I'm still contemplating over open lid or plexiglass. Would I need to have the holes cut in the glass if I have a bit of the left side open? Because I have an HOB filter and cords that need a bit of space. Here's a picture of the tank with the new aquascaping also. The clownfish is much happier!

So I made up my mind, and I'll have an acrylic top. I talked to my local fish store and try recommended it. Now for my light, what should the wattage, and other components be for my size tank. It's 19 x 9 inches.

Got the light, and my phone camera doesn't do justice to what it looks like! It's a bit whiter in real life. It's perfect and beautiful! I'll have to take pictures with a real camera now. :D But anyways, the acrylic top looks really nice. You can see the gap made for the filters and evaporation. Will a firefish try to jump out there? I hope not. The light is nice and I'm satisfied. Haha So I'll be camping tomorrow through Monday afternoon. I fed my clownfish a mix of brine and mysis and he stuffed himself so I believe he'll be fine. After that, I get my paycheck and back to the store I go for more inverts and the firefish! Hopefully I can get corals soon...

Okay, I'm back from vacation. I checked on the tank and everyone's happy. Even my bristle worm is out, crawling around! So tonight in going back to the store. I have a pretty decent sized order of zebra hermit crabs, Mexican snails, and a peppermint shrimp coming in on Thursday to FINALLY finish my cleanup crew. So now that I know for a fact that it's coming in, I can get what I want tonight at the fish store. I want to get the fish out of the way, but I really want to start getting corals- probably a zoa. What do you guys think?

Take in mind when you add fish introduce one or two at a time. You dont need extra poop all at once. Easy does it lol '~{]

Yeah I'm aware. It's been more than a week since I've added my clownfish. I don't have the money to add them all at once. Haha I'm planning right now. I'm not going to get all of this in one day! Trust me, this may be my first saltwater tank but I've had years and years of experience with freshwater. I'm just so excited that I can't stop thinking about it! Hahaha

So I got my first mushroom! Here it is on the day I got it, and this morning. It looks much happier!

Nice. Mushrooms are one of the hardiest and easiest to keep.
