Looking into buying a tank off craigslist from a guy in my area.

Info for the tank -

BEAUTIFUL 165 gallon thick glass fish tank and stand for sale. everything you need included. air pumps, hoses, 2 filters, 2 lights, solid stand, decorative rocks. Comes fully stocked with malawi cichlids. canister filter ehiem professional 2228 (designed for up to 160 gallons) as well as a Aquaclear 110 hang on filter (designed to filter up to 110gal). dimentions are 18.5 x 28.5 x 72.5.

He is asking $600 which includes delivery.

What kind of things should I ask to make sure everything is ok. The tank is up and running with Cichlids in it already and is only a few years old?

I know the price seems really good considering it includes everything needed.

Since it comes with a pretty expensive fish stock and included delivery, I'd say that's a great deal!

But, I would ask why he is getting rid of it.

If you have seen it in perosn, and there are no wet areas under the tank due to leakage, I would go ahead and get it.

I saw that also but dont have the cash at the moment. Looks like a good deal.
Im down the road from you.

I agree..no leaks..grab it..fish alone is expensive..filters.etc..Do the math...looking for a big tank...that is a hell of a deal..delivery alone..on the tank alone could run in the 100-150 range

I'm gonna go look at it tomorrow before I make up my mind but it is set up in the house so I'm pretty sure there's no leaks.

Sounds like a great deal to me. Check and see what the seals look like before you make a deal. Wouldnt want a leaky tank.

Kinda glad it fell through. You could get it cheaper for $600 plus if you buy your own fish you get to build the stock how you want them.

Craigslist is kinda nuts around chicago area I see a lot of 55g setups with people asking anywhere from $400 to 700. I dont know what they are thinking.
The 165 is a good deal around here.

Not in NY city but look in south jersey an upstate ny. People may put up a large price on Craigslist but they sit there and never get sold. Make an offer and usually the first time they say no. Wait a few days and offer it again. They usually take it. I've purchased close to 20 tanks now off of Craigslist for friends/family/myself.

I personally would not have purchased it either at 600. Maybe four... Keep an eye out though!

Why did the deal fall through?
