Aquarium Advice Freak
For all of y'all who were on chat the other night and heard about my $2,000.00 puppy... I have a update. But before I give it, let me bring everyone else up to date and fill in the rest of the story.
The puppies name is Briar Rose and she is a Toy Rat terrier. She was named after the princess Walt Disney's version of Sleeping Beauty.
This story begins in the beginning of April this year when Briar Rose broke her left front elbow. She went running from the bathroom, tripped over the carpet, and tumbled across the floor. that is all it took. This tumble was followed by a storm of screaming, yelping, and a trip to the vet.
Vet #1 (local), took 2 x-ray's, gave her a shot, and gassed her (she was being difficult). But looking at the x-rays, the vet realized that there was nothing that he could do. This required a specialist. But realizing this he waved all of the fees except for the office visit. $40.00. So off to Austin to see a small animal veterinarian surgeon.
Arriving at the surgeons office, he proceeds to check out the x-rays and tells us that the elbow is broken in 2 different locations. This is going to require inserting 2 pins and a screw into the elbow. She is going to need to stay overnite and oh yeah, it is going to cost $1,276.90. But that is not going to be all. 2 weeks later, we needed to go back for a check up and new cast. $20.00 more. 2 weeks later, went back again. No charge this time. Went back 3 weeks later and it was another $67.00 for x-rays and to tell me that I need to return in another 4 weeks. This last trip would be to take more x-rays and remove 1 of those pins and send her home for good. This was going to be $200.00 more.
Neither the wife nor myself were able to take off from work on this last day, so we had to call and cancel the appointment. Atleast for a week or 2. We have not made it to week 2 yet. This is where the update comes in.
Today is Friday. We were supposed to go back down to the Austin Surgeon on Monday.
I walked in after work about 2 hours ago to find my wife laying on the couch with Briar Rose on her chest under a blanket. I stopped and stood at the door unsure of what this weird feeling was that I was having. But after my wife removed the blanket, I understood the feeling. Briar Rose was laying with another cast on the same leg. I am not sure how it happened, but it is broken again. This time it was not the elbow, just the leg. So that means that my local vet was able to set it without another trip to Austin. But it was still another $125.00.
So now we are up to...
$40.00
$1,276.90
$20.00
$67.00
$200.00
$125.00
________
$1,728.90
+$300.00 (the original price of the dog)
________
$2,028.90 and that's not counting either the gas money or having to stop and pick up a fish or 2 from their LFS.
And I think that the worst part of it is that she is not quite 6 months old yet. She was born on January 1, 2005. Or maybe the worst is really that we had only had her for 7 days when she broke her elbow. I don't know. Why do we keep dogs again.
