I have a Betta with some plants in a 2.5 gallon tank. After I get back to school I'm planning on getting the fluval spec 5gal. I was either going to move the Betta into the new one and plant it more or, keep the Betta where it is and put a couple guppies in the 5 gallon(male). I'm still open as to what I want to do with these. I already have a 10 gallon and I am where I want to be with that.

I agree you should move the Betta to the 5. You can do shrimp in the 2.5gal and depending on what type of plants you have you may be able to add some Least Killies. If you have a nice clump of growing java moss in the 2.5 the baby shrimp can hide from the adult Least Killies. Once you have a small colony of Least Killies, transfer a trio to the five and they will produce a steady supply of live food for your Betta.
